Risfjord River

Lars Magne i Risfjordelva

Situation:

The source of the river is the lake "Koifjordvannet", approximately 2,5 km2.
The outlet  is down in "Risfjord", about 10 kilometres south of the village "Gamvik".
The stretch of river containing salmon is approximately 4 kilometres.

Approach:

There is no regular liner for transportation, so the easy way of getting there is by hireing transport with private boat at the village "Gamvik".
Arrival will either be "Risfjord", nearby the outlet, or "Koifjord", which include about 20 minutes walking, and lead you to the upper part of the river.

There is also a possibility of walking from "Gunnarsfjorden", between "Mehamn" and "Gamvik" close to road "FV263".
This distance, about 8 kilometres, is rather tough, and take about 2 hours walking.
Remember to bring along map and compass due to rapidly change in weather conditions!

Kinds of fish:

Salmon, sea char and sea trout. Sea char is the main catching.
In the lake "Koifjordvannet" there is some inland fish besides sea char and sea trout

General information:

The river has many fast water stretches and smal pools with lots of good fishing spots
The vegetation is very limited so please bring your own wood for campfire.

Do not pitch tents closer to the river than 50 metres.

Special regulation:

Time of fishing:

·  Salmon from June 15th 12am to August 31st 12pm
· Sea char from July 1st 12am to July 31st 12pm

·  Sea trout from June 14th 12pm to September 14th 12pm

·  Expanded catch time for sea char in the lake "Koifjordvatnet" from August 1st to August 31st 12pm.

·  Expanded catch time for sea trout from September 1st to September 14th 12pm from the river outlet to north of the power line.
 

Prohibited zones:

·  Stretch from "Koifjordvann" and 50 metres below the pool "Langreiet".

·  The river stretch above "Koifjordvann"
 

 Permitted tools:

·  Spoon, angleworm and fly.

·  From July 11th angleworm and fly only (sinkin lines and similar are prohibited).
·  From August 1st only fly fishing permitted.
·  It is not permitted to fish with more than 3 hooks. A tripple hook counts as 3 hooks.

 ·  In the lake "Koifjordvann" are spoon, angleworm and fly permitted all season.

       

Catch limitation:


Maximum of 2 salmon each day and maximum of 10 salmon all season, including catch and release

Maximum of 3 sea char each day and maximum of 10 sea char all season

Remember to fill in the fishing logbook every day.

 

NOTICE SIGNBOARDS !!

Special advisement:

- Avoid camping by "Vesterelva" on the west side of  "Koifjordvann", because this lightly causes damage on the vegetation at this place.
   This aeria is also an attractive place for fishing which not supposed to be blocked by camping.
- Nature and vegetation are vulnerable so far up north. Use existing places for camping.
- Also use the dustbins placed along the river. Those are not ment for food waste, offals and such.

Inhabitans of the county"Finnmark" Nok.  110,- / 24 hour
Other Norwegian citizens Nok.  220,- / 24 hour
Foreigners Nok.  275,- / 24 hour
Youth under the age of 16 Free

Children under the age of 16 are fishing for free, but can receive fishing license. Remember to deliver catch report.
